NATION’S LARGEST GIRLS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT DRAWS THOUSANDS OF VISITORS TO ROCHESTER THIS WEEKEND10/27/2023
More than 5,000 attendees and athletes will visit Rochester this weekend at local hockey facilities across the county, including—Tim Hortons Iceplex. Rochester will play host to Premier Ice Prospects Roc City Girls Fest (October 27-29 and November 3-5), featuring 15 divisions and 174 teams.

The event will bring over 2,000 players and family members to Monroe County for the three-day event. In total, 55 teams will compete, representing IL, MA, MD, MI, NY, OH, NJ, PA, TX, VA, and the province of Ontario. “MyHockey Tournaments is a longtime partner of the Iceplex, and one of the premier tournament organizers in North America,” said Chris Woodworth, Executive Director at the Iceplex. “As their final event of this season approaches, we’d like to thank them for choosing Rochester as a host community, as well as wish all participants the best of luck as they compete this weekend.” The Rochester Rumble will be the sixth event hosted by MYHockey Tournaments at the Iceplex this year. Over 1,600 players and family members will be converging on Rochester, from 42 teams across the US and Canada, representing CO, CT, OH, MA, NY, NJ, PA, WV, ON and QC.
In total, 13 teams from Ontario, and 1 from Quebec will be participating in this event—more than any tournament that has taken place in Rochester since the COVID-19 pandemic. “The Rochester Cup Challenge is a clear indicator that sports tourism from our northern friends is coming back strong,” said Chris Woodworth, Executive Director at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex. “While ice hockey tournaments have seen an incredible rebound from the effects of COVID, participation from Canadian teams has been lagging. One local youth hockey team is playing for a cause this weekend, running a ‘Hockey Fights Cancer’ fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Rochester based team, ROCO Bantam Minor AAA will have a raffle, and sell “I Fight For” signs for guests to place on the wall of hope at the Iceplex. Based on the Destinations International Economic Impact Calculator, it is estimated that the Empire State Cup will generate $925,806 in direct visitor spending and $619,806 in indirect spending, for a total economic impact to Monroe County of $1,574,837. To date, the Empire State Cup is the tenth tournament in the Iceplex’s hockey tournament season, which features 20 large-scale events that will take place through June of 2023.
