WHO WE ARE

Since Monroe Community Sports Centre Corp., (dba Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex) a 501(c)3 non-profit was established in 1998, it has become a major community asset—serving more than 1.7 million visitors annually and generating millions of dollars in economic impact to Monroe County.  In addition, the Iceplex offers a wide range of programs, activities, and special events centered around active healthy lifestyles—most notably, it's entry level ice sports programming ('growth of the game programs').  There are many positive benefits to participating in ice sports, most notably— staying active during the long winter months. Our passion is to create an awareness of these ice sports and their benefits, while also teaching them to members of our community, in turn enhancing their quality of life.

OUR GOAL

Make ice sports more accessible to members of the local community, who are in a variety of situations that prevent them from doing so. To successfully achieve this each year, the Iceplex provides:
  • Complimentary program registrations for individuals/families in need
  • Ice hockey equipment donations
  • Low cost, growth of the game grassroot initiatives
  • No/low cost ice sport activities for a wide range of community organizations

Since 2013, we've been able to provide complimentary program sessions to over 1,000 individuals within our community.

There's no doubt about it; zooming around on the ice is a fantastic way to embrace winter and get some exercise at the same time.  Ice skating is a lifelong activity that provides a multitude of positive benefits - so why not learn how to ice skate?

The Iceplex Skating 101 Program is the first step in teaching the fundamental skills of ice skating to anyone with a desire to play ice hockey, figure skate, or to skate recreationally.  This 8-week program is designed for the true beginner, it meets once a week, and is taught by our world class skating instructional staff.
Hockey 101
PROGRAM AGES: Ages 4 to 8
PROGRAM FREQUENCY: Each session meets once per week for 8 weeks.  6 sessions offered in total over the course of the full year.

The Iceplex youth learn to play hockey programs are designed around the guidelines of USA Hockey’s ADM model, which creates a fun, relaxed learning environment for participants to learn the fundamental skills of ice hockey.  The non-competitive and positive atmosphere not only makes a child’s first experience with hockey positive, but also creates an environment in which they can excel.  Participants will not only learn the skills and game of ice hockey, but will also develop self-esteem and self-confidence.  The program operates under the premise that if a player's introduction to the sport is positive, they will develop a lifetime love of the game.

Our hockey programs are taught by the Iceplex hockey staff, and in partnership with Rochester Youth Hockey and Rochester Grizzlies coaches, who are all USA Hockey certified with extensive playing backgrounds.
Figure Skating 101
PROGRAM AGES: 5 and older
PROGRAM FREQUENCY: Meets once per week for 8 weeks.  6 sessions offered in total over the course of the full year.
PROGRAM CURRICULUM: Learn to Skate USA: Basic Skills levels 3 through 6 and Free Skate levels 1 through 6
PROGRAM WEBPAGE: Click Here

As an introduction to the sport of figure skating, participants will build upon the fundamental skills learned in the Skating 101 program.  Beginners will be taught the basic elements of foot work, edges, spinning and jumping on the ice utilizing a curriculum designed by the United Skates Figure Skating Association.  Our world class instructional staff will create a learning environment that is both positive and motivational, giving all students an opportunity to thrive in the sport while having fun doing so.

As part of this program, each participant receives an annual membership with the United States Figure Skating Association's "Learn to Skate USA" program. This membership includes
a subscription to Learn To Skate USA The Magazine, a record book to track each skaters improvement, secondary sport accident insurance, and the opportunity to participate in lessons, performances, competitions, and all activities associated with Learn to Skate USA.

Never Ever league
PROGRAM AGES: 18 and older
PROGRAM FREQUENCY: Each session meets once per week for 11 weeks total.  Four sessions offered in total, running all year long.
PROGRAM WEBPAGE: Never Ever League

The Never Ever League is for the adult who has never ever played hockey before.   It combines off ice instruction with on ice skill sessions (80%), and instructional game time (20%). The program is co-ed, non-checking, for people over 18 years of age and is set in an insanely positive, judgment free atmosphere.  No ice skating or hockey experience is required in order to participate.  It is truly one of a kind, as adults are often overlooked, with learn to play programs being designed only for children.  It's unique design and execution are why over 2,500 adults have learned to play hockey through the Never Ever League since it's inception in 2012.

Over the course of the 11 week program, participants will learn the fundamental skills of ice hockey, make new friends and learn the greatest game on Earth.  During the first few classes, instruction is focused on developing ice skating skills of all participants.  In the following weeks, instruction shifts to teaching participants individual playing skills (stick handling, shooting, passing), before shifting into team skills and game play (offense, defense, power play, penalty kill).

TAKE ACTION

Rinks to links golf ClassIC
The annual Rinks To Links Golf Classic serves as a charity fundraiser with one specific goal in mind—strengthening our ability to make ice sports more accessible to members of the local community who are in a variety of situations that prevent them from doing so. This annual golf tournament takes place in August of each year. More information can be found by clicking here.
iceplex Sponsorships & Corporate Donations
The Iceplex offers a robust variety of different advertising and sponsorship packages for organizations to show their support and get in front 1.7 Million visitors annually. Want more information about our offerings or want to make a donation to our organization? Please contact Joseph Dolce, Corporate Partnership & Events Director.
Second Shift (EQUIPMENT DONATIONS)
Second Shift, our equipment donations initiative is a way for the hockey community to assist those in need.  Here's how it works:
  1. Donate new/gently used hockey equipment (which is eligible as a tax deduction--charitable donation)
  2. All donations will then be cleaned, and made available to those who could put it to good use
The hope is that our hockey community will be able to take all of that equipment that is no longer being used, and help us put it to good use by giving it to a good home.
