Ball hockey is a team sport and a variation of the sport of ice hockey and a specific variation of the game of street hockey.
Ball hockey is patterned after and closely related to ice hockey, except the game is played on foot on a non-ice surface, player equipment is different, and a ball is used instead of a hockey puck.
Games are played 3 on 3 with goaltenders in net. Players wear less equipment than in ice hockey (only gloves are required), but goaltenders where more traditional equipment.
The object of the game is to score more goals than the opposing team by shooting the ball into the opposing team's net.
ABOUT THE LEAGUE
The Iceplex Ball Hockey League is played during the spring and summer months, in the feature arena of Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex (when the ice is out for the off-season). Spring and summer seasons are offered, both of which consist of six games plus a playoff/championship.
Games are played in a 'cross-ice' format, with cross ice boards being utilized to create two ball hockey rinks - one at each end of the rink. The center area is set up as a 'party zone' where players can hang out inbetween games, can warm-up prior to a game, or juts hang out to watch other games. Two ball hockey games take place at the same time, with all games paying on running time.
