Monroe Community Sports Centre Corporation’s (currently named Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex) Executive Director Christopher Woodworth, officially announced a Request for Proposals (RFP), for a new operator of the sports and entertainment facility’s restaurant and bar.

Built in 1998, MCSCC has seen substantial growth over the last decade, and is now seeking a new restaurant partner to support its vision and growth as one of the premier multi-use sports and entertainment centers in North America. 

Through its industry leading operational model, world class amenities, and central location in the Northeast United States, MCSCC has become a highly sought after location for hosting large scale events—contributing to its annual foot traffic of 1.7 million visitors.  Unlike seasonal sports and entertainment facilities, MCSCC’s programming, partners, and events, results in a unique opportunity of 360 operational days each year.

The Annual Rochester Border Battle youth hockey tournament, produced by SuperSeries AAA Elite Hockey Tournaments, is set to take place this weekend at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and will bring in over 1,000 ice hockey players and family members into Monroe County. In total, 18 teams representing CA, CT, FL, OH, NJ, NY and SC will compete in the three day event.

Based on the Destinations International Economic Impact Calculator, it is estimated that the Rochester Border Battle will generate $393,3337 in direct visitor spending and $266,612 in indirect spending, for a total economic impact of $659,950.

One local youth hockey team is playing for a cause this weekend, running a ‘Hockey Fights Cancer’ fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Rochester based team, ROCO Bantam Minor AAA will have a raffle, and sell “I Fight For” signs for guests to place on the wall of hope at the Iceplex. ​

The Annual Empire State Cup youth hockey tournament, produced by MYHockey Tournaments, is set to take place this weekend at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and will bring in over 2,000 ice hockey players and family members into Monroe County. In total, 63 teams will compete in the three-day event, representing CT, DE, FL, MD, PA, NJ, NY and the province of Ontario, Canada.​

Based on the Destinations International Economic Impact Calculator, it is estimated that the Empire State Cup will generate $925,806 in direct visitor spending and $619,806 in indirect spending, for a total economic impact to Monroe County of $1,574,837.

To date, the Empire State Cup is the tenth tournament in the Iceplex’s hockey tournament season, which features 20 large-scale events that will take place through June of 2023. Thus far, tournaments hosted at the Iceplex have generated over $12 million in economic impact and 13,464 contracted hotel room nights.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Thursday, December 1, 2022 – The United States Hockey League (USHL) is bringing the top junior hockey in the nation to Rochester for the 2nd annual USHL American Cup Powered by Wegmans from December 1-4 at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and Rochester Ice Center. The USHL is proud to partner with Wegmans to put on this specialty event, which features a pair of regular season USHL games, in addition to a three day youth hockey tournament.
 
The USHL is the only Tier I Junior Hockey League in the United States and is composed of the best 16 to 20-year old hockey players from across the globe. When the USHL comes to Rochester, it will bring with it the Green Bay Gamblers and Youngstown Phantoms, two of the League's 16 Member Clubs. The Phantoms enter the game with four NHL Draft selections including James Fisher (Columbus Blue Jackets, 2022, Round 7, #203) and Reese Laubach (San Jose Sharks, 2022, Round 7, #217) as well as Shane Lachance (Edmonton Oilers, 2021, Round 6, #186) and Tomas Machu (New York Islanders, 2021, Round 7, #221) while the Gamblers have Seattle Kraken prospect Barrett Hall (2022, Round 6, #164) on their roster
 
Youth and amateur sporting events, including the large number of hockey tournaments that Rochester hosts annually, play an important role in the overall economic impact of the tourism and hospitality industry in Monroe County. Prior to the pandemic, the economic impact of the tourism industry in Monroe County exceeded $1 billion, and was responsible for more than 20,000 jobs. In 2021 (most recently available data), the economic impact of tourism in Monroe County totaled more than $994 million, indicating a near total recovery for the industry following the pandemic.

Sports tourism, including events like the USHL American Cup, play an integral role in the growth of the tourism and hospitality industry in Monroe County. These events bring scores of athletes and fans to Monroe County. These visitors will in turn stay at local hotels, spend money at area restaurants and shops, utilize local services and much more.

It is estimated that the USHL American Cup will generate $725,165 in direct visitor spending, with a total economic impact of $1,245,564, according to Tourism Economics Event Impact Calculator.

Rochester, NY - More than 5,000 attendees and athletes will visit Rochester this weekend at local hockey facilities across the county, including—Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex. Rochester will play host to Premier Ice Prospects Roc City Girls Fest (November 4-6), featuring 12 divisions and 126 teams. 

Premier Ice Prospects, in collaboration with NewEdge Hockey Development Academy and Pure Hockey, will be hosting the Pure Hockey Skills Competition on Thursday 11/3 from 5:30pm-8:30pm for all Roc City Girls Fest participants. Each player will be able to test their skills in various categories such as: speed, agility, and shooting.
