ROCHESTER, NY: Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex is set to host over 750 female ice hockey players and family members this weekend for the National Girls Hockey League (NGHL) Fall Showcase. The NGHL is a league dedicated to the promotion and growth of girl’s ice hockey across the United States. This is the National Girls Hockey League’s first event in Rochester, NY.
In total, 25 teams will compete in the three-day event, with MA, MD, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, and VT all being represented. “Girl’s ice hockey has continued to see tremendous growth in the United States, in addition to Rochester, NY,” said Chris Woodworth, Executive Director of the Iceplex. “The National Girls Hockey League is committed to enhancing the overall hockey experience for female athletes, fostering opportunities to pursue a career in hockey. We are thrilled to host their organization in Rochester and to continue showcasing girl’s hockey on the national stage” Based on the Destinations International Economic Impact Calculator, it is estimated that the event will generate $554,252 in direct visitor spending, $396,859 in indirect spending, for a total economic impact of $951,111. The Fall Classic is the third tournament in the Iceplex’s 2022/23 hockey tournament season, which features 20 large-scale events occurring through June of 2023. In all, an estimated 1,000 hockey teams will participate in these events. Based on the National Association of Sports Commissions Economic Impact Assumptions, this event will have an economic impact on the local community in the range of $250,000. The Play Hockey Invitational kicks off the Iceplex’s 2022-2023 hockey tournament season, which features 20 large-scale events occurring through June of 2023.
