The Annual Empire State Showdown youth hockey tournament, produced by MYHockey Tournaments, is set to take place this weekend at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex bringing over 1,000 ice hockey players and family members into Monroe County. In total, 38 teams representing MI, NY, VA and PA will compete in the three day event.
Based on the Destinations International Economic Impact Calculator, it is estimated that the Empire State Showdown will generate $538,667 in direct visitor spending, $371,834 in indirect spending, for a total economic impact of $910,503. The Empire State Showdown is the fourth tournament in the Iceplex’s hockey tournament season, which features 20 large-scale events occurring through June of 2023. To date, the Iceplex’s hosted tournaments have generated over $2.6 million in economic impact and over 3,600 hotel room nights. “Building relationships with key tournament organizers in the hockey industry continues to help us not only grow as a facility, but as a community,” said Chris Woodworth, Executive Director of the Iceplex. “Over the course of the year, the Iceplex hosts six annual MYHockey Tournaments.
