Over 2,500 Athletes to Visit Rochester for Fire on Ice Girls Hockey Tournament This Weekend11/4/2016
Thousands of athletes from the United States and Canada will visit Rochester, N.Y., this weekend for the Fire on Ice hockey tournament, hosted by Invitational Hockey Tournaments.
The tournament is the largest girls ice hockey tournament in North America, with the event drawing 166 teams (160 from out-of-town) and over 2,500 athletes this year. Visiting teams will travel to Rochester from all over the United States, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and more, as well as the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia, Canada. Visit Rochester anticipates tournament athletes, coaches, families and fans will attract more than 7,000 visitors to the Greater Rochester area over the tournament weekend. The tournament is expected to generate over 4,000 hotel room nights during the three-day event with athletes, coaches and tournament staff utilizing hotels across Monroe County. "We are excited for another year of the Fire on Ice Girls Hockey Tournament! The Rochester community offers a perfect mix of first-class facilities, restaurants, hotels, shopping, and off-ice entertainment,” said tournament director, Patti Severo. “We always look forward to welcoming the thousands of great athletes and their families to town for a memorable weekend of great hockey!" The Fire on Ice tournament begins on Friday, November 4 and continues throughout the weekend with the final games wrapping up on Sunday, November 6. The tournament features some of the top girls hockey teams from the U-10 age division all the way up to the U-19 age division. The games will be played at 13 different ice facilities across Greater Rochester including the Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex, Thomas Creek Ice Arena, Frank Ritter Memorial Ice Arena and the Gene Polisseni Center, along with many more.
