Over 1,500 ice hockey players and family members will come together this weekend for the Empire State Showdown tournament. The annual event put on by MyHockey Tournaments will take place at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and runs November 25th through the 27th.
This is the third of six annual Rochester events put on by the tournament company based out of Chicago. In total, 40 youth hockey teams will compete, of which 26 teams traveled in from out of town. This event attracts U.S. teams from NY and NC, as well as teams from the Canadian province of Ontario. The 26 out of town teams equates to roughly 1,000 out of town guests that will reside in local hotels, dine in local restaurants and shop in local stores over a three day period. Based on the National Association of Sports Commissions Economic Impact Assumptions, this event will have an economic impact on the local community in the range of $400,000 and $500,000.
