The Iceplex Broomball League (The IBL) announced plans today to host two free open house events, providing local residents an opportunity to learn the skills and rules of broomball at no cost.
The events take place at Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex, one on December 29th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, and onw January 6th from 8:00pm to 8:50pm. These open house events are for coed adults (18+) and equipment is provided. Participants are encouraged to pre-register on the Iceplex website, to dress warm and to bring a helmet (hockey, lacrosse, bicycle, etc.) as limited helmets will be available. Broomball is a cross between ice hockey and soccer, is played on ice (with shoes) and requires no experience to get started. Players use a broom shaped stick, and instead of a hockey puck, the game is played with a large ball. Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex announced plans today to host the Fourth Annual Skate with Santa event. This family friendly ice-skating event takes place on Saturday, December 17th from 12:00pm to 1:30pm.
Families will have an opportunity to skate the ice to popular holiday music and holiday decor. In addition, there will be free photographs, giveaways, hot chocolate, free face painting and a craft building area. Santa will be on the ice and provide all children an opportunity to give him their holiday wishlist. Admission for this special event is $7.00 for Adults, $4.00 for Children. Over 1,500 ice hockey players and family members will come together this weekend for the Empire State Showdown tournament. The annual event put on by MyHockey Tournaments will take place at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and runs November 25th through the 27th.
This is the third of six annual Rochester events put on by the tournament company based out of Chicago. In total, 40 youth hockey teams will compete, of which 26 teams traveled in from out of town. This event attracts U.S. teams from NY and NC, as well as teams from the Canadian province of Ontario. The 26 out of town teams equates to roughly 1,000 out of town guests that will reside in local hotels, dine in local restaurants and shop in local stores over a three day period. Based on the National Association of Sports Commissions Economic Impact Assumptions, this event will have an economic impact on the local community in the range of $400,000 and $500,000. Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex announced plans today to host their 4th Annual Thanksgiving Day Hockey Event.
This event is their version of the traditional backyard football games that take place across the United States on Thanksgiving. All four ice rinks at the facility will be in use, with pick up games taking place based on ages - Youth, Adult or Parent and Kids. Many families that attend bring a potluck meal to enjoy while watching their family members play hockey. New attendees are encouraged and welcome to do the same. The event runs from 10:00am to 11:30am and admission is $10.00 per skater. |
