The 2017-18 tournament season at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex kicks off this weekend as Legacy Global Sports hosts its ROC City Preseason event. The ice hockey tournament takes place at the Iceplex from September 8th through the 10th.
This year’s tournament season is slated to be the busiest in the history of the Iceplex, which opened in 1998, with over 25 tournaments taking place. The Iceplex’s geographical proximity to the Northeast United States and Canada, the Rochester communities large number of hotels, restaurants and activities, and the world class amenities at the Iceplex make it a top destination for large scale ice hockey tournaments. This weekend’s event, which is run by Portsmouth, New Hampshire based Legacy Global Sports, consists of 24 participating teams, which equates to over 1,500 athletes and visiting guests. Based on the National Association of Sports Commissions Economic Impact Assumptions, this event will have an economic impact on the local community in the range of $220,000 and $320,000.
