Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex announced plans today to host one of their popular Try Hockey For Free events on February 25th from 11:00am to 12:00pm.
The event is part of USA Hockey's 'Hockey Weekend Across America', and takes place at their 170,000 square foot multi-sport facility, which is located on the Monroe Community College campus. The Iceplex runs multiple Try Hockey For Free events throughout the calendar year. These events are designed for children ages 5 to 9 to try ice hockey at no cost and in a positive environment focused on fun. Participants are provided full equipment and skates at no cost and take to the ice for jam packed, memorable experience. On ice instruction is provided by the Iceplex Hockey staff, along with volunteer coaches and players from the local area. A free post event pizza party will be hosted for all participants. No skating or hockey experience is required, however re-registration is required for all participants as space is limited. Rochester Youth Hockey and Rochester Grizzlies Youth Hockey Announce Intent to Form Coalition1/10/2017
Today, two of Rochester’s most historic youth hockey organizations, Rochester Youth Hockey and Rochester Grizzlies, are pleased to announce their intention to form a coalition.
The coalition will provide for a unified player development platform, including USA Hockey Tier 1 and Tier 2 tournament bound teams for boys and girls at all age levels. Non-tournament bound travel teams and Empire Conference house teams will continue to be supported. The coalition’s hockey leadership group will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry and the Rochester community, and the coalition promises to provide the most comprehensive and competitive hockey option available in the area. Further information, including members of the coalition’s hockey leadership group, coaches, the try out schedule, and more specifics on player development and game competition planning, will be reviewed with the hockey community in an informational session on or before February 15, 2017. Members of the proposed coalition have expressed excitement at the prospect of this arrangement and what it means for Rochester hockey, and look forward to furthering hockey excellence in our area. About Rochester Youth Hockey: Rochester Youth Hockey (RYH) was established in 1983 to promote and encourage athletics, physical exercise, and sportsmanship, and the sport of ice hockey, as well as to enhance the moral character and physical health of young boys and girls through organized athletic instruction and competition. Among our members, supporters and teams, RYH fosters and promotes fair play and sportsmanship, a general community spirit, and interest in amateur youth hockey in the greater Rochester area. Over the last 10 years, the Grizzly Program has placed players in the highest levels of Prep School, Juniors, and College Hockey, with one player being placed in the USA Hockey National Development Program. Our Skill and Character Development Model is now being used by top hockey associations in Boston and Canada. Stone Skating school announced plans today to make Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex the new home of the power skating school for ice hockey players.
Stone Skating was founded in 2001 by Erika Stone, as a means to improve skating technique of ice hockey players of all levels. They offer unique expertise with proprietary drills that increase speed, strength, power and agility. Stone Skating will begin hosting weekly skating classes and special clinics at the Iceplex starting in mid-January. Erika Stone has 18 years of figure skating training and 22 years of teaching experience. She competed at the State, Regional and Eastern US Championship levels, with medals at the Regional level and Gold at the Empire State Games Championships. Erika is a USFS Double Gold Medalist in figures and freestyle. She has developed and worked with some of the area’s best players. These players are currently playing in The National Team Development Program, Prep Schools, Division I and III Colleges, NAHL, USHL, BCHL, Toronto, Detroit, JR A, and JR B. She has also worked with players from Buffalo and Syracuse. The events are sponsored by KISS 106.7 and will take place on the second Friday's of the upcoming three months.
January 13th from 8:00pm to 10:00pm February 10th from 8:00pm to 10:00pm March 10th from 8:00pm to 10:00pm Each teen night event will take place inside the party rink at the Iceplex, which features brand new state of the art LED Club lighting. KISS 106.7 will be on-site for each event, with opportunities for all attendees to win great prizes, such as tickets to see Bruno Mars. Tickets are $15.00 per person for this special two-hour skating event. Tickets include both admission and rental skates, and available for purchase at the door the evening of each event.
